Where are you located?

We provide therapy services at our location at 8130 S. Meridian Street Suite 4A, Indianapolis, IN 46217. We are located behind the Chase Bank near Perry Meridian High School and Meridian Middle School. We also provide Telehealth therapy services on a virtual secure platform anywhere in Indiana.

How much does therapy cost?

Our therapy rates are $135.00 per 55 minute session with one of our licensed clinical social workers and $110.00 per hour with one of our licensed social workers. Our couples counseling cost is $135.00 per session. This includes either an in-person session at our Southside office or a secure virtual appointment from the comfort of your home. However, insurance greatly reduces the cost of therapy. Call us or message us today and we’ll be happy to check your insurance coverage for therapy services.

Do you accept insurance?

Currently, we have several providers who accept Anthem and United Healthcare insurance. We also have self-pay therapy providers. Most Anthem and United Healthcare plans offer some mental health services coverage. If you are not sure what your plan offers, we can help you find out. We can also provide you a special bill (referred to as a Superbill) to submit to other insurance companies and you may be reimbursed for some of the costs you paid for your therapy. Contact us and let us know you need information on the cost of therapy. We’ll be happy to help you determine what your insurance will cover.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of therapy depends on your goals and your progress. After we complete our first appointment with your therapist at Changing Tides Counseling, we will be able to provide an outline of our work together. However, healing is not linear and everyone’s journey is different, which means setting a time frame for healing is very difficult.

How often do I need to attend therapy?

Some clients come to therapy services weekly while others come bi-weekly or even monthly. The frequency of your sessions is ultimately up to you. After your first session, your therapist will discuss with you their recommendation for frequency, but you make the final decision of what works best for you. Together you and your therapist can develop a plan to help you get the help you’re seeking.

Feeling nervous about calling a therapist? Wonder what happens when you call?

The hardest part is often making that first contact, and it’s completely normal to feel nervous. When you call, you’ll connect with our intake coordinator, who is friendly, kind, and patient. She’ll walk you through the process, answer your questions, and help match you with a therapist who’s the right fit. If calling feels overwhelming, you’re welcome to text, email, or fill out our contact form — and we’ll reach out in the way that feels easiest for you.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first appointment is called an intake session. It’s a chance for you and your therapist to get to know each other, talk about what brings you to therapy, and discuss your goals. Your therapist will ask some questions to better understand your history and current concerns, and you’ll also have time to share what’s most important to you. Together, you’ll start building a plan for future sessions. Many clients leave their first session feeling relieved to have taken that first step.

It helps to know: the first session looks a little different than ongoing sessions, which will focus more on the therapy process itself.

What is therapy like?

At Changing Tides, therapy is relaxed and down-to-earth — never formal or stuffy. We want you to feel comfortable being yourself. That might mean showing up in cozy clothes, bringing your favorite drink, grabbing a snack, or even doodling or fidgeting during session. Whatever helps you feel at ease is welcome.

Therapy itself is more like a guided conversation. Your therapist will listen, ask questions, and help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Together, you’ll work to better understand yourself, process challenges, and build coping skills and strategies that support your growth. Some sessions may feel light, others may go deeper — but each one is designed to help you move forward in a way that feels right for you.

Which therapist will I see?

Finding the right therapist is an important part of the process, and we’ll help make it easy. When you reach out, our intake coordinator will talk with you about what you’re looking for, your schedule, and your insurance. From there, we’ll recommend a therapist who feels like a good fit for your needs. You’re also welcome to look through our team profiles and let us know if someone stands out to you. And if it ever doesn’t feel quite right, that’s okay — you can always switch. What matters most is that you feel comfortable, supported, and connected with your therapist.
